It was (and still is) my intention to post to this blog about once a week, with fun snippets about fashionable, artsy, or avante-garde knitwear, or news about MPMK updates. So I'm a little disappointed to have gone almost a month since my last post! Just know that when MPMK goes silent, we're still working behind the scenes (and in fact we may even be a bit distracted by our pesky full-time jobs every now and then).
For the last few weeks I've been deliberating about our sock challenge. Our sock challenge was a bit of a disappointment to be honest. I can see by our stats that we have a fairly impressive following for being such a new online knitting magazine, but we only got one submission to our sock challenge. One submission! It was a good submission, but the designer of that one submission should really have a chance to compete, don't you think? Our deadline was short, and maybe we didn't announce it in enough places, but still...
So, I'm once again extending our sock challenge deadline, this time to July 1, 2008. You can find the challenge details here. Remember, we don't even need the completed socks by July 1. Just a sketch!
Just for fun and to get your creative juices flowing, here's some ideas we've run across on the runways.
Pretty, lacey knee-highs from Lacoste, Spring/Summer 2008:

Interesting little anklet thingies from Eley Kishimoto, Spring/Summer 2008:

Wild fringed knee-highs from Noki, Spring/Summer 2008:

Socks that go over your shoes, from Chanel Spring/Summer 2008:

And we don't have any shortage of ideas coming from the folks associated with MPMK either.
Rachel Clarke suggests socks that tie up the back:

Or socks that have a sparkly zipper up the back:

Or socks made of linked strips that button up the side:

She and Caroline Bautista put their heads together and came up with arm socks:

So, you see, if you don't give us anything else to consider, we'll just do what we want and tell you what's fashionable or artsy or avante-garde. And while that amuses us, it's just not as interesting as getting a lot of different perspectives. So, c'mon people, give us your sock ideas! Or else we'll knit these concept socks by Caroline:
