Sites we love and recommend

Publications we like.
Stylesight: This is a great subscription service that allows you to view all of the current runway shows. There are all kinds of options for searching, sorting, and printing. You can view extreme close-ups to really get an idea of garment details. Unfortunately it's not openly available. Do you have a friend working for a clothing company or attending a design school? Maybe they can show it to you. Or, you can view their free blog, Stylesightings.

Style.com and Elle.com: Both are a great source for runway shows if you can't get access to Stylesight.

Knitty: There's something here for every knitter, and best of all, the patterns are free.

KnitKnit: This is a publication that celebrates the intersection of knitting and art. It is published irregularly, but it's worth checking with your local yarn shop to see if they carry it.

Fashion Trendsetter: Free online fashion and color forecasting and trend reporting.

Knitting Daily: This blog-like newsletter from Interweave Press is stuffed full of useful information that will help you improve your knitting skills. The editor, Sandi Wiseheart, makes technical topics such as yarn substitution, shaping, and altering patterns seem fun and easy to understand.

Just a few of our favorite places to buy yarn.
Knitpicks: A great source of inexpensive yarn, available in lots of different fiber blends and colors. Also the home of the popular Knit Picks Options needle sets.

Webs: One of the best selections of yarn that you can find online. As if that's not good enough, check out their sale section.

Elann: Another great source of inexpensive yarn. You'll find a lot of name brands here for far less than retail, and Elann makes their own yummy yarn which they sell for bargain prices.

Etsy: Etsy is a marketplace made up of individual sellers who create all kinds of handmade goodies. You can find way more than just yarn here, but if you are searching for yarn try browsing under "Knitting" and under "Supplies: Handmade." You can also search tags and titles for "handspun," "hand-dyed" and of course, "yarn."

Jimmy Beans Wool: Another huge online yarn shop, with great sales.

KnitMap: Not a yarn store exactly, but it will help you find a local yarn shop.

Knitting Communities we belong to.
Ravelry: Ravelry offers you a way to organize your projects and stash, make connections with other knitters, and so much more. It's still invitation only, but they hope to open up to everyone soon. Meanwhile, put your name on the waiting list. They're inviting new members all the time.

Knitting on LiveJournal: A great community for asking knitting-related questions and showing off your FO's.
